Jake Alvarez

M. Jacob Alvarez is a 26-year-old Cartoonist/Process
Engineer/Comedian. He was born and raised in Baltimore City but
currently resides in the grand and overshadowed metropolis of
Philadelphia. As close as he can tell he lost his dignity somewhere near
Newark, Delaware.
Jake has been drawing underground comics for over a decade. [See also Philly Comix Jam] Upon
moving to Philadelphia in 2007 he enrolled in PHIT (Philadelphia Improv
Theater) classes to get a different perspective on comedy and fill the
time he previously spent wondering where his life went wrong. Under the
tutelage of several Philadelphia improv luminaries, Jake soon learned the
pleasure to be had by screaming like a lunatic. Just kidding. He's
known that forever.
Improvisational comedy did offer the possibility of screaming in front of people — without the hassle of a lengthy police chase
afterwards. Rightly assuming that no established group would put up
with his villainous shenanigans, Jake boldly set out to recruit a group
of like-minded people of low moral fiber to perform comedy with. They
were called Hitch*Cock*Block!
After reaching a high point of practicing three times with
a different cast at every practice, they dissolved without performing a
show. Having learned the valuable lesson not to give a new group a name
offensive to just about everyone before you recruit any members, Jake
resolved to try again.
In early 2009, after a lengthy screening process
involving harsh interrogation methods and shameless begging, a new crop of aspiring comedians began to practice in Jake's disheveled railroad
apartment. They would come to be known as Rookie Card and their story is
only beginning.
