With their humor being described as “absurdly juvenile meets dark and tragic… in a kind of sloppy, fearless way,” Rookie Card doesn’t have to be told they’re offbeat.
NC Comedy Arts Festival 2011:
Rookie Card, Philadelphia, Pa.
Philadelphia’s most unconventional improv group is different and knows it. With their fast-paced and subversive style, no cow is too sacred to tip over, slaughter and devour. Sometimes uncomfortable, always unpredictable, it’s comedy you’ll be sure to remember.
Rookie Card takes their improv seriously, despite the seeming disregard for rules. Members have taken classes at UCB, ComedySportz and PHIT (Philadelphia Improv Theater), as well as being coached by Philadelphia's Matt Holmes, and workshops with noted improviser Asaf Ronen. The group has performed the Harold, the Eventé, the Deconstruction and their current form, a loose Harold, all while still retaining their distinctive style and attitude.
Performances at the Philadelphia Improv Festival, on the PHIT main stage (including four CageMatch victories under their belt), as well as the 2010 Del Close Festival attest to their upward momentum. They also host a monthly show with other groups from Philadelphia’s alternative improv scene as guests. Rookie Card are people getting together to do what they always wanted: to entertain. They’re having a blast. So experience Rookie Card, the fearless punk rockers of Philly’s improv scene, for yourself.
